At St Andrew's, we regularly raise money for local, national and international charities.
In the recent past, we have supported work in Romanian orphanages, provided equipment for local children with special needs and raised money for Spinal Injuries Research. Currently, we are rasing money for following causes:
Tsumani Earthquake Appeal
St Andrew's has already raised £882.90 for this appeal. As a long-term project, we hope to support the rebuilding of an orphanage that was wiped out in Sri Lanka. This will be looked at again by our fund-raising committee later in the year.
Pinetown Methodist Church, South Africa
Another long-term project. We are raising money to send to one of their outreach programmes called Phakamisa which assists grannies and unemployed women to train and run nurseries. These women also take in and teach orphaned children.
Tommy's Campaign
This is a national charity that funds vital medical research into premature births, miscarriages and stillbirth. The monies raised from our Sunday coffee and the monthly cake stall are given to this cause.
Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital
This hospital performs life changing operations on young women who are severely damaged by prolonged childbirth, often due to female circumcision. Each operation costs £100. £1,000 will be donated in order to radically change the lives of ten women.
Samaritans
£100 will be donated to Samaritans to support the work they do, acting as a friend to people in difficult situations.
Hall I'th' Wood Action Group Holiday Fund
We intend to hold a 'one-off' event to raise money to assist local families that wouldn't normally go on holiday.
