Each year we try to attend the International Dementia Conference.
In 2009 we were fortunate to be funded by Bolton Vision and we sent four delegates to represent the Dementia Support Group as well as the people of Bolton.
The event was held at York racecourse where we met delegates from all over the world.
Collectively we attended over 50 presentations and actively promoted services in Bolton.
Again in 2010 we attended the conference at the London Excel centre where we had a bitter sweet experience. Our secretary Kath was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award but on her way to the presentation she fell and broke her wrist! One of our members, Mina received the award on Kath's behalf.
Further success for Kath followed when she was nominated for the Bolton Woman of the Year Award. There was a great deal of interest in this award which was therefore divided into various categories. Kath won Bolton's Woman of the Year Award for her contribution to older people.
Although still recovering from her accident she did manage to stay on her feet and receive the award personally from the Mayor of Bolton
