Bulilding Bridges Update Feb 2010
Building Bridges Update October 2009
The aims of the Church in Community project, 'Building Bridges' are:
1. To counter alienation in young people and fear in older people by building bridges between the two age groups and developing mutual trust and support.
2. To help the Church understand, integrate with, and serve its local community.
3. To use this experience to identify and share ways in which other Churches could become more engaged in the national Children's Services / Children's Centres initiatives in their areas.
4. To provide a model for other churches to shake off the constraints imposed by obsolete buildings.
The project involves Age Concern, Bolton Council Children's Services (represented by the Centre Manager) other denominations, local residents' associations and URC Central District (all represented on the Community Minister Management Group'). Support has also been provided by URC NW Province and East Bolton Regeneration.
It is envisaged that Members of the Church will contribute to community development and support activities in the new Centre as volunteers, and that the Church will be able to fulfil its aim of helping to enhance the quality of life of residents in Tonge Moor. It is also felt that having a Christian fellowship based in the Children's Centre will provide a resource from which local residents and supporters of the work of the Children's Centre will benefit spiritually and emotionally.
The Church has developed financial management systems for its Community support work separate from its life as a worshipping fellowship. This will hopefully facilitate access to, and eligibility for financial support from a variety of bodies.
If you wish to get involved in the Project please feel free to email us at tongemoorurc@buildingbridgesintongemoorbolton.co.uk , we will be pleased to welcome you!
